White tracks

The photograph is of a piece of flint stone from chalk down land. It represents the moment I realised that I came from a certain geographical area, the South Downs, where the rolling landscape is crossed with white tracks: the short springy turf quickly wears through to the dry chalk and flint skeleton inches below. I realised I would always think this looked right and was where I was at home. This realisation came to me when I was about 12 visiting family in Worcestershire full of lush woods and rivers, where the tracks are rich and red, a beautiful county, But I'm from Sussex and red roads aren't mine.
